NEWS

This year, the Prague Pride brings you something new: a queer femme party. The unforgettable Beaver Lez Party will take place on the two floors of the Eternia/Underdog’s clubs (Nádražní 3, Praha – Smíchov) on Friday, 10 August, from 8 p.m.

Airbnb and Prague Pride 2018 offer you a very special festival experience. Hop on a decorated float on Saturday 11 August and enjoy the whole route of Prague Pride Parade dancing to the music of a DJ, waving to the crowds on the street level and taking pictures of the gay atmosphere. By riding a float you will save your feet from getting sore from the uneven pavement in the historical city center.

Some use glitter makeup and wigs. Some bind, pack and meticulously craft their own facial hair, yet there are plenty of those who don’t. And for many of them, performing in drag allows them to express a part of the gender identity that they don’t necessarily perform in real life and some others continue living it out after their performances.

When a Central Asian fashion designer uses fashion to gain LGBT visibility. Prague Pride is hosting a rather unusual event: the Sild Road Fashion show designed and displayed by LGBT persons from Central Asia. Bakhodur is a gay fashion designer, born in Uzbekistan, grew up in Tajikistan, studied in Kazakhstan and spent some time in Kyrgyzstan.

The rainbow tangram has become a vital part of Prague Pride in recent years. Honza Valder, its author, succeeded to create a logo putting together rainbow colours, diversity of the LGBT community and a puzzle of issues that we face in the Czech Republic.

Friday 1 December is World AIDS Day, an occasion to raise awareness of the dangers of the illness and at the same time to express support for the people living with HIV and honor the victims of the epidemics. Around the world this day has been marked since 1988. The Czech Republic is still searching for its own approach on HIV and HIV-positive people. This confusion and the repressive attitudes of some officials in high places are best illustrated by the case of Max Blanck, a police officer who 2 weeks ago received another negative verdict in his discrimination complaint against his former employer.

The Czech Republic’s Constitutional Court decided on 24 July 2017 in a landmark ruling to recognize a same-sex couple’s parenthood which was already valid in a foreign country. The decision is about a Czech and a Dane who were married in the USA and raise two children by surrogate mother. California laws consider both men parents since the children’s births, and both men’s names are in the California birth certificate.
